This is an Oscar Wilde Appreciation Post.
Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde (16 October 1854 – 30 November 1900) was an Irish writer and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London’s most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. Today he is remembered for his epigrams, plays and the circumstances of his imprisonment, followed by his early death. [via]
Words of Oscar Wilde:
To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.
The pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple.
I don’t want to go to heaven. None of my friends are there.
The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.
A good friend will always stab you in the front.
Women are made to be loved not understood.
You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit. (The Picture of Dorian Gray)
A thing is not necessarily true because a man dies for it.
The heart was made to be broken.
All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does, and that is his. (The Importance of Being Earnest)
Quotation is a serviceable substitute for wit.
I can resist anything except temptation. (Lady Windermere’s Fan)
Every woman is a rebel.
America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.
You don’t love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.
